Finding your next marketing role during a pandemic

According the U.S. Bureau of Labor, as of 2019 there were over 314,000 marketing jobs nationwide, with a projected growth rate over the next 10 years of 6%, faster than the average of all occupations. Massachussetts is also named one of the states with the highest employment levels of marketing managers.  Yet it feels harder than ever to feel competitive in the job market.

Job hunting can be a stressful time, especially if the loss of your job or client-base was unexpected. To make matters worse, 75% of resumes are rejected before they even reach the hiring manager. As content marketers, we spend our days trying to stand out above the noise in the work we do and stories we create. So how do you carry that into the job hunt process? Especially with unemployment hitting historical highs as the economy navigates through COVID-19.

The experts weigh in

We were able to sit down with two of Boston’s top recruitment experts, Erica Seidel of The Connective Good, and Matt Gill of MICA Consulting Group to get their perspective on:

-What does the landscape look like for marketers right now? (i.e. is it as bad as it seems?)

-What are companies looking for when hiring marketers in this environment?

-What skills sets are on the "wish list" for marketing recruiters right now?

-How can someone set themselves apart when the market is really competitive?

-What are some creative ways that writers/content creators can use to stand out?

-Suggestions to always be “at the ready” for new opportunities even if we aren’t looking right now
